The Masters Swimming Coaching Courses provide candidates with the basic coaching knowledge and skills of swimming to be effective adult club coaches. The Intro Coach and Club Coach courses are registered with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) and integrate the compulsory units of the ASC Level 1 Coaching Principles course.
Candidates are required to have completed the Intro Coach Course as a pre-requisite for the Club Coach Course. Candidates should be at least 16 years of age before embarking on these courses. The completion of the Intro Coach and the Club Coach Course will allow candidates to be accredited with NCAS.
Requirements
Intro Coach
Pre course reading of approximately 1 hour
Theory 1.5 hours and the completion of the Beginning Coaching General Principles Course (approximately 3 hours)
Practical 1.5 hours practical coaching
Current Resuscitation Certificate
Applicants have 12 months to fulfil these requirements
Candidates are required to undertake pre-course study/preparation prior to the course. Candidates will be provided with the required material prior to the commencement of the course. Some practical sessions will be conducted at a pool venue.
Participants are responsible for completing the Resuscitation Certificate requirements in the time permitted.
Participants need to complete a post course assessment booklet to satisfy all assessment requirements.

This unit will assess the coaches ability to provide feedback for improvement in a positive way through practical assessment with swimmers |

This unit will assess the coaches ability to plan one basic session through practical assessment with swimmers |

The Role of the Coach |
This unit explains the roles and ethical responsibilities of the coach. This is covered in the BCGP online course |
|
Safety and Risk Management in Coaching |
This unit helps coaches to assess and manage risks and safely conduct a training session. This is covered in the BCGP online course and during the practical sessions. |
|
Catering for Individual Differences |
This unit helps coaches learn how to cater for the physical and social development of the athlete. This is covered in the BCGP online course. |
Club Coach
Pre course reading approx 2 hours
Theory 3.5 hours and the completion of four units in the Intermediate Coaching General Principles (ICGP) Course (approximately 3 hours)
Practical 1 hour

This unit assesses the coaches ability to document risk management strategies in a practical setting. This is covered in the ICGP online course. |

Basic Anatomy and Biomechanics |
This unit assesses the coaches ability to recognise structures and movement of the body to analyse performance. This is covered in the ICGP online course. |
