2018 is the Year of the Coach

PROGRAM FOCUS
Coaches are a very important part of the Masters Swimming family: they help competitive swimmers to reach their goals and set new records (in the pool and on the open water) and they help ‘recreational’ swimmers keep fit and healthy.

Throughout the year MSA will be:-

  • Promoting our coaches – giving you insight into what drew them into coaching and what some of their ‘special moments’ have been.
  • Providing you – with some great coaching ideas.
  • Offering a coach course subsidy – to assist individuals to attend a MSA Club Coach Course. The finer details of this program are currently being finalised and you will be able to apply soon – see information below.
  • Encouraging clubs – to profile and support their coaches
SUBSIDY SUPPORTING COACHES
Participation in an MSA Club Coach Course Workshop is a necessary part of gaining the Club Coach accreditation. However, the availability and location of Workshops can make travel costs expensive.  Since many Club Coaches work as volunteers, travel costs can be a disincentive to becoming accredited.  The MSA Board has allocated funding for 2018 Year of the Coach to provide support for the travel costs of Club Coach candidates to attend the required Workshop.

Club Coach Course costs (registration fee and online course fee) would remain the responsibility of t the candidate. Clubs are encouraged to pay for or subsidise these costs for their coaches.

TO BE ELIGIBLE YOU NEED TO BE:

  • a current and financial MSA member (swimming or coach member)
  • there is a scheduled sanctioned MSA Club Coach course you are wishing to attend
  • you reside 150 km or more (min 300 km return trip) from the MSA Club Coach course training venue.
  • Course must be a sanctioned MSA Club Coach Course – the subsidy is not available for any other type of coaching course.
