The Coaching Excellence Award acknowledges the vital role coaches play in supporting, developing, and inspiring Masters swimmers across Australia. Coaching Excellence may be demonstrated in various ways, whether through high-quality coaching on pool deck, the development of inclusive and supportive training environments, or meaningful contributions to improved swimmer performance, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport. Their commitment not only enhances individual outcomes but also strengthens club culture, encourages lifelong participation, and supports the ongoing growth of Masters Swimming. These awards celebrate those who embody the values of Masters Swimming Australia and whose dedication makes a lasting and meaningful impact on swimmers and the broader organisation.

Congratulations to Judy Bonning, Miami Masters (QLD) on being awarded the 2025 National Coaching Excellence Awards.

  • Over the last 18 months, Masters Coach Judy Bonning developed, piloted, reviewed, and then, promoted and re-offered the first Transition to Masters (T2M) swim program in Australia, if not the world. The T2M program was designed for adults to progress their swimming and water safety skills to become more comfortable around the water and to provide physical, mental and social benefits. Judy brought professionalism, and coaching excellence to T2M that she has built her reputation on and she is exactly the kind of coach this recognition was created for.

Congratulations to Susan Leech, Bush Rangers Masters, Penrith (NSW) on being awarded the 2025 National Coaching Excellence Award.

  • Susan who swims for Penrith AUSSI Masters and Bushrangers (MSNSW Virtual Club) is a MSA-accredited coach who from early 2025 has developed a series of Swim By Yourself programs that she makes available by email to support masters swimmers. This excellent initiative by Susan targets swimmers who may not have a club coach, those who are unable to attend coaching sessions in their area and those who do not have access to coaching sessions, e.g. swimmers in regional areas. Her initiative in providing an online coaching service is hugely beneficial and has positive impact overall for Masters Swimming and deserves this Award.
