Annoucment of MSA Directors

Masters Swimming Australia is pleased to announce that Barbara Etter APM and Jackie Goldston have been elected to the Board of Masters Swimming Australia (MSA) for a two-year term, commencing at the end of the 30 April 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

MSA takes this opportunity to acknowledge the exemplary service on the Board of Andrea McNeil OAM and Robert Hardie, whose terms will expire at the conclusion of the AGM. Andrea has served with distinction for nine years on the Board, as the acting Finance Director since October 2025, as Finance Director (2017-2022) and Director (2022-2025). Robert was elected to the Board in 2020 and has served the maximum three terms as an elected Director.

 

Barbara Etter APM, FAICD, FAiPOL (Tasmania)

    • Hobart-based member of Hobart Aquatic Masters and former Club Secretary; lifelong swimmer who began on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and has competed with Masters clubs in Adelaide and Perth, as well as in ocean swimming and Tasmanian State Championships
    • Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD); holds qualifications in Pharmacy, Law (Honours), a Master of Laws and an MBA
    • Brings extensive executive leadership, governance, and strategic experience from a distinguished 30-year policing career across New South Wales, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and at the national level
    • Attained the rank of Assistant Commissioner and has acted as Deputy Commissioner in Western Australia, with senior responsibilities across strategy and performance, integrity and corruption prevention, education and training and operational policing including forensics
    • Former Director of the Australasian Centre for Policing Research, leading national strategic reform and cross-jurisdictional initiatives, including early electronic and identity crime strategies
    • Governance experience includes Chair of the Board of Studies at the Australian Institute of Police Management and inaugural CEO of the Tasmanian Integrity Commission
    • Recipient of the Telstra Businesswoman of the Year (WA, 2006) and the Australian Police Medal (2008)
    • Experienced Integrity and Justice consultant and lawyer, with ongoing involvement in governance, policy, and organisational reform
    • Extensive volunteer leadership across sporting, professional, and community organisations, including presidency roles and contributions to constitutional development and incorporation
    • Brings strong governance capability, strategic leadership and a commitment to Masters swimming “for life”

 

Jackie Goldston (Queensland)

    • Lifelong swimmer and member of Commercial Masters with a strong commitment to inclusive participation and the future of Masters swimming
    • Active living advocate, with deep experience in member-based organisations and a passion for behaviour change, partnerships and delivering public value
    • Professionally, a purpose-driven executive with 20+ years’ experience in marketing, organisational strategy, stakeholder engagement and commercial leadership across the health, wellbeing and community sectors
    • Currently Commercial Manager at Unique Health Products, leading cross-functional teams across marketing, digital, events, sponsorship, and partnerships, delivering sustained double-digit growth
    • Earlier senior marketing roles with Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, and Wyeth (Australia and UK), managing large-scale portfolios and delivering award-winning brand strategies
    • Previously managed a portfolio of 30+ national and international health and wellness brands, delivering integrated campaigns across retail, digital, and wholesale channels
    • Former marketing and communications consultant to organisations including Cancer Council NSW, Diabetes Australia, and JDRF, delivering national advocacy campaigns, health promotions and strategic transformation initiatives
    • Recognised for driving strategic growth, building high-performance teams, and delivering advocacy initiatives that improve community health and participation outcomes
    • Brings strong governance capability, board-level contribution, stakeholder engagement expertise and experience in sponsorship, partnerships and community advocacy
